HOW DO I BECOME A REFEREE?

North Texas referee page with eligibility requirements and instructions for becoming a certified referee. Please contact assignor@rowlettsoccer.org for any assistance about this process.

Referee Clinics:

  • Clinics are normally available between the months of July-November and January-April across different cities and locations throughout the North Texas area.
  • New Referees and those with expired badges (i.e. 2 years or greater) MUST attend one in-person clinic in addition to completing the online coursework in order to be obtain your USSF Referee badge.
  • Minimum age to be eligible is 13. (Must be 13 at the time of registration.)
  • If RYSA decides to host a clinic, it will be listed on the State Association available clinics page. (See link above.)

Re-Certifications:

  • Generally offered starting in July through December of the current year and can be completed entirely online, unless you have an expired badge as explained above.
  • A new soccer year starts every July therefore the badge you receive is good for the remainder of the current calendar year and next. (E.g. Re-certifying in July 2023, you receive a 2024 badge that grants you the privilege to officiate until 12/31/2024.)
  • The 2024 re-certification process is now open for all license types.
    • Log into the OMS portal to complete your online re-certification. If you need help, please refer to the following Recertification Help Document online.
    • Once you access the online lessons, it's vital to follow the Introduction Module as it provides explicit instructions on how to complete your SafeSport certification through the U.S. Soccer Learning Center.
    • NOTE: Regular 2024 re-certification is open from August 1, 2023 - December 22, 2023. No registrations will be available from December 23, 2023 - January 2, 2023 at which time late registration is in effect. A $10 late fee is assessed starting January 2, 2024 through June 15, 2024.
