Coaches Season Info for Fall 2023

Recreational Coaches, Managers –

Please find additional information for you below; More updates to follow for volunteers as we move forward in the season.

Quick/One-Liner of each item:

  • All Divisions:
    • Coaches, please keep your spectators away from the touchlines (the ‘sidelines’) by a minimum of 3 yards, everyone stays away from the goal line/goal net (no one can be behind either end of the field), and away from the ends of the field (i.e., towards the corner flags, no closer than 10 yards). Coaches should always remain within the technical area (near centerfield) near your team. Spectators and even some coaches are moving up and down the touchline which is distracting to both players and referees.
    • All decisions are final by our referees! Do not question them during the game. If you would like to remit constructive feedback about the ref, please do so using our forms under the “Referees” link on our webpage.
    • DO NOT APPROACH OFFICIALS aka Referees. HAVE A GRIEVANCE? FILE IT WITH RYSA. DO NOT ENGAGE ANY OFFICIAL PRE/DURING/POST MATCH.
    • Be respectful and kind to our Referees! Most of our referees are minors and those refereeing our younger age brackets are brand new or relatively new. Your actions towards them can impact them forever so please be mindful to all our refs and be respectful and courteous. Ask yourself “would I want my child to be treated this way?” This coincides with our Code of Ethics/Conduct that you agreed to abide by when you signed up to Coach. You are responsible for your entire sideline including the spectators/parents. Should any of them be disruptive the Referee will hold you responsible up to ejecting you from the game. Send us feedback about our refs to help them grow!
    • Referee Fees:  4U-8U, Refs paid directly from association. 10U and up,EACH team pays half referee fees. Referee pay chart here: Referee Pay
    • RYSA logos for player uniforms: Players should wear the RYSA logo on the left sleeve of their jerseys. Still need some logos? Please contact Tina @ the RYSA office via phone or email.
    • ID Badges:  Each team must have 1 rostered adult with a RYSA issued picture ID to be able to play. NO BADGE, NO PLAY. YOUR TEAM FORFEITS. Don’t forget your badge!
    • Game ballHome team always provides the game ball for playVisitor team should have a ball ready for use just in case. (Ball must be fully inflated, firm, correct ball size. Usability for the match is determined by referee.)
    • Alternate JerseysHome team is responsible for changing their jersey colors when in conflict or as requested by the Referees. (Some teams choose to obtain a white jersey for home games or will wear pinnies over their jerseys. Player numbers on jersey are ALWAYS required!)

    • 7U-8U division: Play 4v4, NO goalkeeper.Minimum to start the game is 3 per team. The match is split into 4 quarters of 10 minutes each. There’s a 2-minute break between quarters 1&2 then again between 3&4; halftime is a 5-minute break between quarters 2&3. ALL KICKS ARE INDIRECT. NO SLIDE TACKLING ALLOWED. Players do THROW-Ins at this level.
    • 10U division: Play 7v7, one of whom may be a goalkeeper. Minimum to start the game is 5 per team. NO PUNTING. All attacking players must retreat behind the build-out line once goalkeeper has possession of the ball. Goalkeeper may not punt the ball to distribute after taking possession. Ball must be passed or thrown. The ball is in play upon release. Read our new Build out line FAQs here.
    • HEADING: There is NO INTENTIONAL HEADING in 12U and below. Any infringement results in an Indirect Free Kick (IFK). Final decision is made by the referee in judgement of intentional or not.
    • Goal Safety – North Texas rule enforcement: Our referees will be enforcing the NTX requirement that all goals be anchored before starting a match. It is the final decision of the referee if the goals are anchored and if he/she judges them to not be anchored they are required to NOT start the match. RYSA is already working with the City of Rowlett Parks & Rec department to ensure all goals are anchored and we will proactively check our goals to avoid this scenario.
    • Rowlett Community Park (RCP) Fields: NO PRACTICING on the game fields. They are for seasonal game play only. Violations to this rule are subject to a $50 fine.
    • Game “no-shows”: RYSA would like to make clear that any team that does NOT arrive to the field, ready to play, will be considered a forfeit. There is a $25 fee for any forfeit due before the next scheduled game else the team cannot play. (Criteria: In 10U and below, any team not at their assigned field and ready to play within 10 minutes of the scheduled game time; in 12U and above, any team not at their assigned field and ready to play within 15 minutes of the scheduled game time.) REFEREES WILL START THE CLOCK AT THE SCHEDULED GAME TIME. NO ADDED TIME WILL BE GRANTED FOR TARDINESS.
    • RYSA Modified playing rules: 10U & under have modified playing rules. Please review here: Playing Rules.
